WALLACE GOEBETZ MEMORIAL PRIZE

The Wallace Goebetz Memorial Prize is awarded to one graduating LS sophomore. This prize serves to recognize academic scholarship, and it is awarded on the basis of highest academic average. The prize was established in memory of Professor Wallace Goebetz, a longstanding member of the School of Continuing and Professional Studies faculty who actively participated in the development of the degree program.

THE ELAINE KUNTZ MEMORIAL WRITING PRIZE

The Elaine Kuntz Memorial Writing Prize was established in 1988 in memory of Dr. Kuntz, who was the first associate dean of LS. The prize is awarded to a LS freshman each year for an outstanding Writing essay. The Writing faculty nominates students for this prize.

DEAN’S LIST

At the end of the fall and spring terms, a Dean’s List is compiled. This is an honor roll for students who have maintained a semester average of 3.6 or better after completion of at least 12 credits. To be listed, a student must have no incomplete grades (I, IP, or IF).

DEAN’S CIRCLE

At the end of the freshman year, students who complete the freshman year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.65 or better and who have earned at least 30 credit hours will be invited to apply for the Dean’s Circle University Scholars program, LS’s honor society. Dean’s Circle scholars participate in a range of activities with the associate dean, including visits to cultural events (e.g., theatre performances, museum exhibits, and concerts), and an international travel experience. Members are also expected to engage in community service and to work over the course of the year on a major research project on a topic related to Dean’s Circle travel. In recent years, the Dean’s Circle scholars have traveled to the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Spain, Turkey, Cuba, and Brazil. Dean’s Circle members in good standing also receive favorable consideration for the University Scholars programs in the schools to which they transfer as juniors. Dean’s Circle members must plan on remaining in LS for the entire sophomore year.

MICHAEL L. PROBST SCHOLARSHIPS

LS students are encouraged to apply for the Michael L. Probst Scholarships. The scholarship was endowed by a former distinguished administrator of the School of Continuing and Professional Studies. The eight awards are based solely on merit and are open to LS students at the end of the freshman year. Students do not need to be eligible for financial aid to receive the award. Scholarships will be applied to tuition charges for the fall semester of the sophomore year. The awards are for one year only and are not renewable. To be eligible to apply, students must have a cumulative NYU GPA of 3.75 or better with no outstanding incomplete grades, must have earned at least 32 credit hours toward the degree, must not have been subject to any disciplinary sanctions, and must enroll full time in for the fall semester. Eligible students must submit an application that includes an essay and a letter of support from a LS faculty member.
