Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for Incoming GSP Freshmen,
Washington Square Campus (Fall 2008)
Please note: GSP Freshmen beginning abroad at sites in Florence, London and Paris should be aware that the start dates for classes, orientation, and other welcome programs are different for those sites. Freshman Orientation and Welcome:
- When is Freshman Orientation?
The GSP Freshman Orientation at Washington Square will be held the week of Monday, August 25. The GSP Orientation is mandatory. You will receive your GSP Freshman Orientation Program by mail in August 2008.
- Are there other NYU Orientation or Welcome Programs for Freshmen? Yes!
- NYU Student Resource Center holds "Welcome Week", an all-University Orientation (a week-long weries of activities and marquee events for freshmen in all of NYU’s undergraduate divisions). NYU Welcome Week is held August 25 - September 1, 2008. For more information, go to NYU Student Resource Center website at www.nyu.edu/src
- The NYU Center for Multicultural Education Program (CMEP) holds a Diversity Orientation as part of Welcome Week. For more information go to www.cmep.nyu.edu
- The NYU Office of International Students and Scholars also holds an orientation program for international students. For more information go to www.nyu.edu/oiss
- Is there a Summer reading requirement?
GSP Freshmen are assigned a common text to read over the Summer. The common reading for GSP freshmen enrolling at Washington Square for Fall 2008 is Sailing Alone Around the Room by Billy Collins.
- When is the first day of class?
The first day of class for students at Washington Square is Tuesday, September 2, 2008. The NYU Academic calendar is accessible at www.nyu.edu/registrar/calendars
NYU ID Card
- Where do I get an ID card?
You can get your card when you arrive on campus in the Fall. Please be sure to bring state-issued photo identification with you. Call 443-CARD or visit www.nyu.card for details.
Course Registration and Course Schedules
- When do I register for Fall classes?
You will receive your GSP course registration materials and instructions in May and June. GSP Academic Advisors will register you for Fall 2008 classes.
- Who will my advisor be?
You will receive information about academic advisement by mail in August 2008.
- Where can I get my course schedule?
Student schedules are available on Albert, NYU’s online student information website. To connect to Albert go to NYU home home.nyu.edu. Log in using your NetID and password. On the page that opens, click the ACADEMICS tab. In the Albert channel on the left side of screen that opens, click STUDENT LOGIN, then click REGISTRATION, then click SCHEDULE to view your schedule. Schedules will not be posted on Albert until August 2008. Note: Please be sure to check Albert again on the first day of classes in order to get the most updated information about your courses and classroom locations.
- When is Winter break?
Winter recess begins Saturday, December 20, 2008. Classes for the Spring 2009 semester begin on Tuesday, January 20, 2009.
Housing
- When can I move into my dorm?
Sunday, August 24, 2008 is NYU Freshman Move-In Day and the NYU Family Welcome Picnic and Fair at Gould Plaza located at 40 W. 4th Street (8:00AM-5:00PM).
- When is the Housing Deposit deadline? How much is the Housing deposit?
To reserve housing, you must submit a housing deposit of $1,000 and it must be received no later than June 2, 2008. For more information go to www.nyu.edu/housing.
- I have several questions about student housing (fees, dorm options, roommates, meal plans, etc)

Tuition
- How much is tuition, room and board?
Please visit www.nyu.edu/bursar to view information about tuition, room and board. You may also Contact Bursar’s Office at (212) 998-2800.
- When will the tuition bills be sent out to students?
Tuition bills will not be mailed to students. You will be billed electronically. Please visit the NYU Office of the Bursar website at www.nyu.edu/bursar/ebill.
- When is my tuition due?
Tuition is due August 11, 2008. Please check the bursar’s website for the due date for tuition, fees and housing payment. DO NOT mail a check to GSP or to the Office of the Bursar. You will be billed electronically. Visit the NYU Electronic Billing website at www.nyu.edu/bursar for more payment and billing information.
- Can I pay tuition with a credit card?
You can use a major credit card to pay your tuition via PhoneCharge. For more information, please visit the Office of the Bursar website at www.nyu.edu/bursar.
- I have a question about my financial aid award.
For information on Financial Aid or to speak to a financial aid counselor, contact the NYU Office of Financial Aid at (212) 998-4444 or visit www.nyu.edu/financial.aid.
Parents
- When is NYU Parent’s Weekend?
The NYU Parent and Family Day (for parents of all freshmen) will be held Saturday, October 18, 2008. Invitations will be mailed to parents. Also, the NYU Parents Guide has helpful information for parents. You can access the NYU Parents Guide online at www.nyu.edu/parents.guide.
