The General Studies Program

Alumni

deanpicture.jpgSince 1972, the General Studies Program at New York University has provided students with a unique educational experience. Over 11,000 alumni have successfully completed the program and graduated from NYU with baccalaureate degrees. Their varied professions and accomplishments bear testimony to the lifelong value imparted by GSP's core curriculum. We are proud of their achievements.

Last year, GSP successfully became a part of Arts and Science at NYU. Our new home is an acknowledgement that, as a core liberal arts undergraduate program, GSP is a central part of the University's premier arts and sciences faculty. For our 1000 entering students this year -- the second largest component of the freshman class at NYU -- many important things will not change. The hallmarks of our program -- a faculty dedicated to teaching, an integrated curriculum based on the Great Works, and discussion-based small classes -- will remain as they always have been.

Many GSP alumni have continued to call the program "home" and many have stayed connected with the University and other GSP graduates. However, the new General Studies Program Alumni Association begins as a more focused effort to bring our alumni back to Washington Square and to strengthen our large, international community. The GSP Alumni Association will host events throughout the year and we also encourage our alumni to attend other NYU-wide programs and events.

This is an exciting moment in GSP's history and we are delighted to invite all of our alumni to reconnect and to become involved. I would be glad to hear personally from you by email at gspdean@nyu.edu.

Sincerely,

Fred Schwarzbach
